Assessments

“A true knowledge of ourselves is knowledge of our power."
  —Mark Rutherford

Self-awareness is the cornerstone of development (McCauley & Moxley Jr, 1996). By knowing ourselves, we can begin the process of enhancing our gifts and strengthening our areas for growth. Self-awareness can be defined as an understanding of our own personality, preferences, strengths and limitations – it is knowledge of our own individuality.

One of the most effective ways to increase self-awareness is through the judicious use of appropriate assessments. There is a wealth of studies (Borman, 1998, cited by Brutus, London & Martineau, 1999) that indicate that multi-rater feedback instruments are very effective in giving us valuable information about our style and its impact, as seen by those with whom we interact on a daily basis: our manager, our direct reports, our colleagues and our customers. Clarion offers the following assessments:

Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI)

The ECI 360 offers a way to assess your strengths and limits, giving you precise, focused information on exactly which competencies you will want to improve on in order to meet your career goals. The ECI 360 combines the seminal work of Dr. Daniel Goleman and Dr. Richard Boyatzis with Hay Group’s 30 years of competency research and field-proven assessment technology. It covers the full spectrum of the emotional competencies that matter most for star performance. The instrument is designed for use only as a development tool, not for hiring or compensation decisions.

Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI)

The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) is the best-selling and most trusted leadership tool of its generation. Developed by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, this instrument package approaches leadership as a measurable, learnable, and teachable set of behaviors. This 360° leadership assessment tool helps individuals and organizations measure their leadership competencies, while guiding them through the process of applying Kouzes and Posner's acclaimed Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership® Model to real-life organizational challenges.

Myers-Briggs Assessments (MBTI®)

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, (MBTI®) is the most widely used, validated psychological instrument in the world.  It provides a framework through which we can begin to understand our own, and others', behavior and is widely used for leadership development, team building, improving communication and stress and conflict management. It was developed over a period of forty years by Isabel Briggs Myers and her mother, Katharine Cook Briggs, and is based on the ideas of C.G. Jung's psychological type. Clarion offers six different MBTI® assessments.

The Personal Coaching Style Inventory (PCSI®)

The PCSI ® is an assessment tool that helps executives, managers and coaches understand how to connect more easily in relationships with their teams and others they work with. Awareness of the four PCSI styles helps you to learn how to flex your style to support colleagues, clients and customers. The PCSI was developed by Dr. Lee Smith and Dr. Jeannine Sandstrom for CoachWorks International, Dallas, Texas USA.  This inventory is not a psychological/personality tool.  It is intended to be a self-inventory where people designate how they want to give and receive feedback and advice.  It is best used as a snapshot of how individuals can have effective communication in relationships.
