Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI)
The Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI) is a multi-rater tool that assesses your emotional intelligence. It is based on the seminal work of Dr. Richard Boyatzis and Dr. Daniel Goleman, and builds on the HayGroup's 35 years of competency research (research initially begun and carried out by McBer & Co.) and proven methodology for the full spectrum of emotional intelligence. The result is an assessment and development tool of unmatched precision and authenticity .
For Individuals
The ECI will give critical awareness on how people you interact with on a daily basis perceive you, both in how you manage yourself and how you manage your relationships. Feedback from those who have a chance to observe you every day in many different circumstances is the most useful and meaningful. Self-rating instruments, while useful, can be skewed by personal bias, lack of objectivity or self-awareness.
Once you know where you are at with regard to the 18 emotional competencies, you can start to develop a plan to enhance your emotional intelligence.
For Organizations
For organizations, the ECI is a development tool that can be used to provide feedback on an entire work unit or department, profiling its overall strengths and development needs. Pooling the individual assessments of an entire work unit provides a comprehensive profile of the organization's emotional intelligence. This Work Force Audit can reveal key emotional gaps that may be limiting performance effectiveness.
Your employees receive a personalized report that gives those who are current leaders or who aspire to be leaders powerful insights in areas that they can develop to improve their performance.
How does the ECI differ from other 360 Assessment Tools?
The ECI uses three sources of knowledge on Emotional Intelligence, drawing on 35 years of solid research.
Emotional Intelligence: Dr. Daniel Goleman identified 20 emotional intelligence competencies (now combined into 18), that together account for 2/3rds of the abilities deemed essential for effective performance across 181 job-specific competency models.
Competencies: Dr. David McClelland identified that every competency has a "tipping point" of proficiency that separates high performers from average performers. For each of the 18 competencies, the tipping point provides an achievable development goal.
Development: Dr. Richard Boyatzis has demonstrated how to develop competencies with significant improvement sustained in follow-up evaluations.
Who Can Administer the ECI?
To ensure that ECI consultants meet HayGroup's quality standards, the ECI is limited to accredited users who can demonstrate their ability to give accurate, comprehensive feedback to their client.
Bruna Martinuzzi is an accredited ECI consultant. When you order the ECI, she will hold a 60-minute de-brief session with you, helping you to interpret the results and the target levels needed to achieve mastery in the various competencies. Team de-briefs can also be arranged.
